There are no bad alignments or movements. Moving in all of the incredible motions is being alive!
Issues and ailments can arise when we favor certain muscle patterns over and over, year after year. Practicing neutral alignment is an amazing starting place to move more of yourself and counteract habitual patterns. Neutral alignment teaches us to be and move in ways that support longevity and moving freely!
We often take for granted parts of our culture that involve overuse and underuse patterns. The shoes we wear, the chairs we sit in, artificially paved & flattened surfaces, the vehicles we drive, our clothing and even the beds we sleep in can lead to unhealthy movement patterns.
There are also many things we no longer do - walking different distances daily, sitting on the ground, walking with bare feet and on various textures, squatting to go to the bathroom, using our arms to carry and climb... We live with vast cultural conveniences that require much less movement than we need to thrive.
Suddenly, we are slouching in our pelves while sitting, favoring one leg while standing , shrugging our shoulders in stress and clenching our bellies and various other parts more than we are aware of.
Maybe we start to experience musculoskeletal issues or bone density issues and chalk it up to "age", but as my mentor says, every part of you is the same age. Your knee that aches is the same age as your neck that feels fine.
We are here together to see from more angles and perspectives. We are here to experience that it has less to do with our ages, and more to do with the ways we are continuously loading ourselves minute by minute. We are here to experience that neutral alignment cues are moves themselves and are the start to a journey of feeling better.
Nutrition has been studied for a long time so we are well aware of how important diets full of vitamins are, but a lot of movement research has focused on performance (professional athletics) over structure longevity. A variety of "movement vitamins" are just as important as what we eat for well-being.
We can move in ways that move us away from pelvic floor issues, diastasis recti, arthritis, bone density issues and just about every common ailment. Results often come along in mind-blowing ways with a consistent, simple practice. Being honest and kind to ourselves is key.
Imagine waking up and thinking, "wow, my (insert body part or condition) not only doesn't bother me, but it feels good!"
With patient practice, myself and others have experienced just that.
